HARRISBURG HIGH - CLASS OF 1984

Inspired by Harrisburg High School teacher Ms. Ruth Jackson and in loving memory of their fallen classmate Zachary Warren, ten members of the Harrisburg High School class of 1984 have come together to create the Harrisburg High School Class of 1984 Legacy Scholarship Council, a fund-raising organization dedicated to assisting students attending their Alma mater to further their education through college scholarships and mentoring.

The group committed to this challenge after hearing remarks by Ms. Ruth Jackson at their 25th reunion on November 28, 2009.  Under the leadership of Caryn Watson, and founders Elisa Smith, Zack Warren, James White, Kevin Dixon, Rodney Bonner, Patricia Robinson, Terrence Beverly, Susan Boyer-Martin and Joe Grier – the group is dedicated to not only raise money to help needy students go to college, but have detailed a mentors program as part of their responsibility to Harrisburg High School students.

Mrs. Jackson reminded the 85 attendees at the reunion last year that they must never forget the hardships and obstacles that many Harrisburg High School students have to overcome to graduate, and urged them to think of a way to extend a helping hand to today’s high school students.

On July 16, 2010 Zack Warren, fellow council founder and one of Harrisburg’s favorite sons, passed away.  Council members agree, “There is no greater tribute we can pay to the memory of Zachary Warren than to help young people live up to their full potential.  Out of the tragedy of Zach’s untimely death, the Zachary Warren Memorial Scholarship was born.  It’s a scholarship that will enable a student athlete and leader among this community’s best and brightest to continue rising to the top!
